Mr. Kirby and a short opening address by the chairmen — Mr. Jobn Anderson, Grand Worthy Patriarch, delivered a short and pithy ad- dress concerning the operation of the Scott Act. He contended thot the liquor traftic had been pretty well driven out of the Gountry districts aadthat it had been greatly abated inthe city and towns.
Comparing the past with the present, he said that there were no such scenes in Charlottetown nowadays as used to be
frequent twenty years ago. The improve- ment was, perbaps, more apparent to strangers than to citizens. The licensed vendors had proved a stumbling biock to the temperaoce workers. But he was
happy to say that atthe present time there is not one of these be- tween Charlottetown and West Cape. The doctors now depend upon
the druggists to suppiy all their require - ments aad he had yet to learn that anyone
had d.ed or suffered for want of liquor. He advised and exhorted the citizens of Charlottetown to stand by the Scott Act and vote it in again by a decisive vote,
