Attending UNESCO Seminar At Athens

Visiting in Athens, Greece. at present is Miss Frances Johnston. director of ithe Art Centre here. who is attending as an observer the UNESCO seminar being con- ducted there. The seminar opened yesterday and Miss Johnston is the only one from Canada who made the special trip to Athens. She will stay at least two weeks for the major part of. the sem- iriar.

Miss Johnston spent several days in Rome after leaving Paris and was greatly taken with the lit:-rnal City. On her first morn- ing thcre she was awakened ear- iv hy loud voices under her win- rlnw. On looking out she saw i-here the entire little street was bring transformed into a market with stalls set up and filled with baskets of "gorgeous looking fruits and vegctnbics." She said hv 7:30 in the morning the street was a very busy place and she was told this went. on every morning "so there is no need of an alarm clock.”

..-suorrru INJIJIID - Mr. Ben Gordon. Rosenosth, was slightly injured in an accident Sunday evening when his car ran into a tree at Montague. Mr. Gor- don was coming down MacDonald Avenue. when the brakes or his car failed, and being unable to make the turn. ran head on into a tree in front of the home of Mr. Leonard Glllls. The front of the car was crashed in, damaging also the right front fender. Mr. Gordon was taken to the King's County Hospital where herecelved a few stitches to close a cut on the fore- head, and was then released.

Announced to-dsy. that the of- ficial opening of the New Maritime Hospital 8 e r v 1 c e s Association Building in Moncton. N. B.. has been scheduled for October 13th. Plans for the formal dedication of the new structure include special anniversary ceremonies during which hospital and medical repre- sentatives from across Canada will be on hand to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the founding of the Blue Cross Plan in the Maritimes.

Among the matters under study will be education and museums; archaeology and art history mus- sums and their role in education; history; art of the past and pre- sent; museums of regional folk art and historical arts: education- al methods in use in museums.

In addition to the straight study and discussion periods there will be frequent visits to well known museums and other points of interest including a visit to the Acropolis by moonlight.

After spending some time in Paris and before going to Rome Miss Johnston spent scovral days in Stockholm. Sweden as the guest of Dr. Torsien Althln, Dir- ector of the Technical Museum. and Mrs. Althin. She returned to Paris for another 10 days there and then spent a little time in Florence and Milan. In the latter city she visited the Galleria Arte Moderne and the Toatro Scaia.

....'The monthly meeting of the lldontague Town Council was held as Y o. the Town Clerk and three Council members present. 'Tlie minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read.

Under correspondence a letter from a lady in Portland, Me., was read. requesting that a street be named after her parents who were early settlers in Montague. It was decided that a letter be sent to her declaring that there were no streets available at this time but that the matter would be held for future consideration.

There was considerable dis- cussion concerning the purchase of a pumper truck for the Town Fire Department. A motion was made and adopted, that the par- ticular truck in question, he pur- chased for s300.00 dollars and that Mr. Nicholson be given the power to buy the required parta

In the Police committee report it was disclosed that there was more difficulty involved in the bailing out of persons arrested in Montague than the Council had thought necessary. A committee, consisting of Mayor Yen and Councillor Mnccowan. was ap- pointed to confer with Attorney General Darby and get a denn. Ite ruling concerning bail and the amount of time a prisoner must spend in jail after his ball has been posted.

The council discussed the open- ing of the new federal building, which will trike place on Wednes- day. Sept. 15th. it was disclosed that the R.C.M.P. are going to block off the street in front of the building and are after traffic problems Before ad- Sournment plans were made for seating arrangements at the cere- mony.
