choice and decision we have to make is to enter the secret place of the Most High and there abide.

TWO EXPERIENCES

There are two experiences in Jesus” life that surpass all others in sheer transcendent glory - at His baptism the declaration of His Father's love and the descent upon Him of the Holy Spirit, and on Mount Hermon His Trans- figuration. He was praying when both of these came to Him. Both had been preceded by an act of self- commitment to the task of sav- ing men. and as He offered Him- self to His Father for the out- working of God's purpose of grace, the Father came to Him in overwhelming love and power. The first prepared Him for action. the second for suffering: and the door into both was prayer.

Jesus prayer before making the great decisions of His career. For example, He spent the whole night in prayer before choosing the Twelve Apostles. He also prayer after such decisions. We read in John 6 that after He had fed the five thousand and had refused finally the multitude's desire to make Him King. that lie went away by Himself to pray. With this settled. what next? was His question, and only in His communion with the Father could He find the answer. Sometimes the criticism been offered that such implicit dependence on God's guidance prevents onels own individuality from finding expression. It is true that some people have sought the leadings of the Divine Spirit in such a mechanic ' way that their own personality never appears. But it was not so with Christ. As He obeyed His Father's will. His own originality and independence stood out with increasing clearness. God wants in His service all that is distinctively onc's own - his initiative and his peculiar view of God and man. By follow- ing Christ closely we become more truly ourselves and do the particular thing we were raised up to do.

The monthly meeting of Spring- field W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. George Dunning. Dec. 7th. with the president, Mrs. Crawford Sincla' presiding. The topic for the evening was "The Spirit of Christmas" and appropriate decor- ations carried out the theme. The meeting opened by singing "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." Roll call was responded to by eleven mem- bers donating a gift for a handl- capped child.

The treasurer. Mrs. William Haslam reported a substantial balance in the funds. that 522.75 had been collected for the National Institute for the Blind and that three Springfield histories had been sold since the last meeting. Routine reports were heard from Red Cross. School and Sick Com- mittees and Mrs. John Hlckox was appointed on the latter. The Pro- gramme Comm. for I956 reported the work well under way and dis- played the attractive new covers. A donation was made to the T. B. League and our adopted Institute In 5338' T is to be remembe ed with a "Beautiful Canada" Calend- ar. The first numbe on the pro- gramme. conducted by the conven- or, Mrs.Norria Sinclair, was I reading "The Legend of the Christ- mas Rose" by Mrs. Clare Haslam. Exchange gifts from under the gaily decorated tree were drawn by the members and a demonstr- ation of original gifts proved most interesting. These were Judged by ballot and Mrs. Clare I-laslam's was voted the most original. Ballots were cast for the most enjoyable program in 1955 and honors went to the Horticulture program. convenor Mrs. William Haslam who received a suitable prize.

The meeting closed by singing "Silent Night” and refreshments were served by the hostess and
