The division entered Paris a tough. lean outfit. Moat of the men d started their march homeward the desert ot North Africa! They had fought with the British against Rom- mel’s Afrike Korps.

They had developed clan and esprit and all that goes into a good fighting outfit. Yer within

hours after the division moved in to Paris. It aiml disintegrated. 'l‘ h e s e French-

. were never trained to re- alst women. ‘ Commanders raged. The Americans were fiabbergested. Orders were issued. But what good is an order when there is no one around to listen to It?

Once Paris was liberated. the tank crews simply walked away from their armor to join the women. For a long time It had been Ia guerre. Now it W‘Il l'amour.

Paris was in the line of the American a d v a n c e. Bradley knew that once the city was
