The progress made by towns in Pictou County this year has been unparalleled in the history of the county. Four have about a population of 20,000. The amount spent in building operations this season is enormous.

The old Lascar at the Dorchester Penitentiary, known as Don, and whose name was Merino, died at that institu- tion the. other day. He was true to his Paganism and died having faith in images. He was sentenced in Halifax for life for kill- ing a sailor, and has been in the penitentiary for thirty-six years.

The statement that during the season the sum of $2,528.64 has been expended on the Club's grounds, making, with $30€1.70 last year, a total of $2,630.31 to date. The total receipts were $5,690.57, and the expenditure $4, 123.57. The receipts from the bazaar were $2,234.59 ; subscriptions of membership amounting to $1,035.50, and gate receipts during the season $216.50. Of the expenditure, $2,328.64 was jen the new grounds, and $190.58 was placed to reserve account, Thus there is a balance on hand of $1,527. The Club have a member- ship of 220; 46 new members being elected during the past year, ——at> a> Stipendiary Magistrate's Court.
