He went on to say an FM station would be very beneficial to the UPEI campus, creating a greater sense of community through increased awareness of campus events. O’Connor said CIMN offers a distinct service to the Charlottetown area and also gives some much-needed exposure to UPEI. The UPEI Student Council voted unani- mously to support CIMN’s bid for an FM license. The proposal has also been submitted to the UPEI Senate.

The difference between the Career De- velopment Centre and the former employment centre is that this facility will have more of an internal focus. Students visiting the centre will be encouraged to apply what they have learned during their time at UPEI to market themselves to employers. The centre, while helping stu- dents find employment, will also be helping us acquire long-term skills and knowledge.

Centre staff hope to also work in coor- dination with various departments and socie- ties across the university, helping to organize “‘career fairs’, bringing in speakers and re- cruiting officers from various businesses. When planning the career development and employ- mentcentre, Jensen researched Wilfrid Laurier University’s Student Career Assistants as well as the federally funded Canada Employment Centres. At Wilfrid Laurier, student volun- teers work to help student union suborganizations, and recruiters in the busi- ness community. It is this idea of help coming from within the university community which Jensen found impressive. —
