Work Done up to the Present —Con- nections Being Made.

Work upon the outlet pipe at Pownal wharf is* progressing favorably and Mr Thorpe expects to,have 300 feet of iror pipe down before navigation closes.

The coffer-dam that the pipe is laid in is Jocated on the western side of Pownal wharf, and is constructed of 3x12 matched plank driven scme eix or seven feet

into the mud to ensure tightness. The top of the cofferdam is level wth the water at high tide, It is about nine feet wideand 125 feet long. From its extreme end toa point

about 260 feet past Pownal wharf and wel! out into the current, there wil] be 20-inch cast iron fi:xible-joint pipe.

Theend of the coffer-dam nearest the wharf is already connected with the main sewer line. The pipe ased inthe coffer. dam and connected with the sewer is 20- inch cast iron.

The first coffer-dam waz put down on the wharf while the two manholes were being constructed and pipe connections made. When this work was completed the coff:r-dam was removed. These coffer- dams sare put down to keep out the tide-water during pipe-laving; this work is done the plank are taken up It is expected that the second one will be removed about the middle of next week.

The line from King to Water Street, on Pownal Sweet, will be completed ab ut the

Tue Civy Rotiter.—The city roller wa today removed from the Market Square where, for several weeks past, it has rested in the mud to be finally frozen in. Three horses and three men took it away.
