Wade MacLauchlan has seen many changes in UPEI,

“Since 1999, UPEI's repu- tation and standing have been enhanced with consis- tent strong performances in

“This has ‘been further reflected in awards for facul- ty and students, in research growth, and in increased numbers of students coming to UPEI from _ across Canada, from many coun- tries around the world, and from P.E.I.”

UPEI is a small university that is expanding to greater limits everyday. UPEI according to MacLauchlan is a small university, with a big heart.

“The greatest strength of UPEI is that we know who we are - a smaller university with the advantage of scale and of a strong sense of community,” he said.

UPEI has been very suc- cessful in attracting and retaining top-quality faculty and staff, and in recruiting a diverse and highly motivat- ed population of students, said MacLauchlan.

Last year there was a record number of graduates, to walk across the stage to get a degree. UPEI has approximately 4,000 full and part-time students, as is increasing the percentage of international students to

Some of the new facilities include: A new student cen-

ter; new residence, the CARI pool and rink, a new fitness. center, a new

Business school and expan- sions to the ever popular Atlantic Vet College.

A Canada Games athletics facility is in the works, as it will be completed in 2009. New programs are being launched or expanded every day.

A Master's of Business Adminstration program was just launched, and there is now. a new Bachelor of Integrated Studies program, for any adults who dream about going back to school.

Wade MacLauchlan is looking ahead at the bright future of UPEI. With three years left in his term, he has many goals he wants to accomplish before his term is up.

“A lot can be done in three years. We must aim for enhanced student engage- ment, including graduation and retention. UPEI must continue to be successful in a competitive recruitment environment.

“Our commitment to teach- ing and learning must remain a top priority, as our research activity and impact are enhanced.”
