Professor Robertson's Visit.

THERE was a great dealof sound common sense as well as of practical information in the lectures delivered by Professor Robert- son, farming lie inthe difference between

His proposition that the profits of the cost of production and the price obtained, should be constantly borne in mind. It is evidently useless to strive for high if, after all, the cost of production is greater than the prices obtained. Better, a deal, strive to lessen the cost of production and make the best of markets are available. It is worthy of note that Professor Robertson did not say that the farmer should place his dependence upon Commercial Union, Unrestricted Free Trade, Annexation, or any other form of the fad which grits are now recommending, but only in his skill and labor in utilizing the forces of nature. The great work which the government of Canada is quietly accomplishing for our farmers was, however, made evident by Professor Robertson’s interesting descriptions of the Experimental Farms and the duties of the Superintendents and Professors employed in connection threwith. The information afforded is of that reliable and practical kind which must at once commend itself to intelligent farmers.

Suppen Deatu.—The Farmer says the wife of Mr. Cowan R. McKinnon, of Lot 16, died very suddenly last Thursday even- ing about 5 o'clock. At the time there was no other person in the house, her husband being away to Malpeque fishing, while .two little girls had been out picking berries. When found lying on the floor she only breathed for a few moments afterwards and then expired, but how long she had been there or when she became unconscious is not known, It is supposed the cause of death was heart disease as she had never been known to complain of illness. Found Drowned.

Yue lifeless body of Richard Davie, boilermaker, was found floating in the water at Victoria Park, about 150 yards west of the site of the old tubuggan slide, between seven and eight o’clock this morn- ing. Two boys—John Ellsworth and Wil- liam Bain—who were on their way to the city from North River in a boat, were the first to observe the body. ‘They called to Mr. Henry C. Connolly, who was driving through the park, and informed him ot their discovery. Mr. Connolly, after veri- fying the boys’ story, drove to the police station and informed Marshal Cameron of the affair. The Marshal lost no time in getting to the scene. He found the body floating (with the feet dragging on the bottom) in about three or four feet of water a short distance from the breastwork. He had the body taken from the water and ex- amined. Inthe pockets he found a razor, some tobacco, four or five cents, a hand- kerchief and some other small articles.

The Marshal's next act was to notify Dr. Conroy, Coronor, and empannel a jury. The jury is made up as follows: Bartho- lomew Flannigan, Michael Hennessey, Harry Hind, John P. Murray, R. M. Young, James Mclsaac and John A. Me- Innis. After viewing the body it was taken to the late residence of the. deceased, on Euston Street, between Pownal and Roch- ford Streets. The inquest will be held in the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Courtroom this evening at eight o'clock.

Davis was forty-seven years of age, and leaves a wife and several] small children. He was a native of Halifax, but for many years past has been a resident of Charlotte- town. When Morrisey’s Foundry was in its palmy days, Davis was one of the most capable and trustworthy of the employes therein, and for a number of years past he has been in the employ of Messrs. Mc- Kinnon & McLean, who speak in the high- est terms of his capability as a workman, of his skill as a mechanic, and of his honesty and integrity, while they deplore his occa- sional “sprees.” For about three weeks previous to Thursday last Davis had not been attending to his work. On Thursday last, however, he went to the shop and worked until Saturday. During these three days it is said that he was not in his usual health—apparently suffering from some of the after effects of over-indulgence in liquor, This morning, at or shortly be- fore six o’clock, he left his house dressed in his working clothes, telling his wife that he would be back shortly to breakfast. But the first news his poor wife had of him was that his body had been found at the Park under the circumstances above stated.
