December ilth. 1951. a public service was held in the church to celebrate the 80th anniversary oi its crganization. Presiding over the gathering was Mrs. Kenneth Gordon. president of the organization. and with her on the platform were Mrs. Curtis .VicRae. a charter member. and Mrs. A. C. Green. The roll oi charter members of the Auxiliary was called by Mrs. Wallace Donald. who also read the minutes oi the organization meet- ing. As already stated, one oi these charter members. Mrs. Mc- Rae (nee Miss Mary Ellen Hardy) was present. Messages irom the other two surviving charter mem- bers. Mrs. John Miller of South- port. P. E. 1., (nee Miss Annie Murray) who was the iirst trea- suler, and Mrs. J. H. White oi Vancouver. B. C.. (nee Miss Min- nie Gordon). were read by Mrs. Allan Clark who also expressed the regret of Mrs. John Johnston oi summerside (nee Miss Kate Hardy). an early member. that

she was unable to be present.

when the Montrose Auxiliary was first organized in 1891. it in- cluded members from all three sections oi the congregation, Montrose. Elmsdale and Tignish. The organization meeting was held in Montrose Church with sixteen ladies present. Aiter de- votional exercises. Mrs. Stewart ob- ject ior which they had met and p:oceeded to organize the Auxili- ary On motion. it was decided that the annual fee ior married ladies be one dollar and ior young ladies twenty-five cents.

Oiiicers elected were:

President - Mrs. Hugh Square- briggs. 1st vice-president - Mrs. Archibald McMurdo 2nd Vice- President -- Mrs. William Car- ruthers. Tignish, flrd Vice-presi- dent -- Miss T. McNeill. Elms- dale. Secretary - Miss Libby Hardy. Treasurer -- Miss Annie Murray. Auditor Miss Agnes Hardy.

For some reason Miss Ilardy was prevented from iilllng the oiilce to which she was ap- pointed and at the iirst regular meeting of the Auxiliary. Miss Ag- nes Hardy was appointed here- lary in her place.

Other ladies present at the or- ganization meeting were Mrs. John Donald. Mtrs. Charles Har- dy. Mrs. James Hardy. Mrs. Dan Squarebriggs. Miss Lizzie Donald. Ramsay, Miss Ella Bquarebriggs

At the first regular meeting oi the Auxiliary, held in the manse. it was decided to term a sewing Circle in connection with the W. 1''. Oiten more than iiity hand- nlade garments were shipped in the annual box. in the early days the members had diiiiculty in se- curing suiiicient funds to buy cot- ton for money was very scarce. As they were able. the ladies would donate a iew yards oi cotton. a spool of thread or a dozen but- tons and oitell it meant real sac- riiice ior them. Quite oiten the merchant would reduce the price it a whole web were purchased. The t'Grierson Mission Band" wa; organized on May 21st. lwd. at a meeting oi the W. F. M. Rev. Mr. McLeod. a missionary irom Korea. gave a very fine address on the mission work being done there. FAREWELL PARTY AT SOUTH FBEETOWN

-On Friday evening; Nov. 30th. a large number oi iriends and re- latives gathered at the home oi Mr. and Mrs. John Stetson. South Freetown. to bid isrewell to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Drummond and family, who are leaving the com- munity.

Aiter the crowd had assembled. the meeting was brought to order by Mr. Leslie Reeves who. in his usual jovial and capable manner brieiiy outlined the purpose or the gathering.

He then called on Mrs. Wilbert

Drummond. who on behalf oi the community read a very iitting ad- dress. after which gills consisting oi an Aladdin lamp. studio couch and rocking chair were presented by Mrs. Leslie Reeves, Mr. Wilbert. Drummond and Mr. Cliiiord Fran- cis. An address on behalf or the Home and School Association was read by Mrs. Elmer Gauthier and a gilt oi china was presented by Mrs. Fred Stetson and Mrs. Elmer Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. Drummond both thanked their many iriends for the lovely giiti. and both expressed

the hope that everyone present would visit them in their new home.
