I have hitherto not named the Herring fishery, in itself an inexhaustablc source of wealth, independent of every other consi- deration. Should a company caustituted as above, with the powers vested in them- selves, and a staunch vessel or two at their disposal ; a regular trade might be opened to the West Indies, whose inhabitants would take our fish in exchange, for the

roducts ofthe Torrid Zone, and post cash. The Island of St. Domingo or the Spanish Main woulxl be found far superior marts to the British Colonies.

These hints Only relate to a single set tlement but what would benefit one harbor will be equally applicable to the whole Is- land.

Your Correspondent certainly deserves well of the Island for the information he continues to afford, as also the great in- terest he takes in what relates to roads and bridges, all of which he appears to be tho- roughly acquainted.

Tbe continual exposure to the public eye, of matters of such import, cannot but have a great tendency to keep the worthy ('ommissioners and place Hunters to their duty, and prevent a system of jabbing, neither quite compatible with their own honor or the common interest of the Co- lony.

\Vith respect to his remarks on Gover- nor Heywood of the Baltic, I am certain he is fraught with the best feelings towards this end ofthc Island,-yet he has so much on his hands, what with ruling his refrac- tory subjects, feeding his hogs, and attend- ing to family duty, he is apprehensive that it will be some time ere he will be able to answer the abstruse queries put to him by your correspondent Rub.
