F. fullerton, delivered a highly interesting, instructive and . evter.~ taining lec ure. ‘*Mary Queen of Scots” was the sul ject of his discourse, and need - less to say it was haodied in an able and artistic manner. The stereoptican views were fine, especially those of Queen Mary and Elizabeth. At the conclusion of the lecture short ad- dresses were made by Rev. D, B. McLeod and Rev. Mr. Finlayson. A vote of thanks to the learned lecturer was moved by Mr. A. B. McBenzie and seconded by$Mr. R Corbett aod extended to the Jecturer.

Havaya, May.29.—Seven Cubans were paid $75 each as the result of the Grat days distribution of the money alloted | by the United States for the payment of th Cuban eoldiers. The Uitlanders’ Petition.

-SOHANNESBURG, May 28.—The British reply to the recent petition of the Uit-~ landers praying for the redress of their grievances is to the effect that the petition is receiving eerious consideration: While the government is unable at the present stage lO express an Opinion on the points raised, it declares its general sympathy for memorialisis, and says it earnestly desires a speedy and substantial change in their position. It expects that the questions at issue will be conciliatorily discussed by Presideat Krager and Sir Alfred Milner, the Governur cf Cape Colony and British High Commissioner in South Africa, at their coming meeting at Bloemfontein. The Government regards President Kruger’s agreement to meet Sir Alfred as evidence of the Transvaal’s readiness te satisfy the reasonable aspirations of the ‘itlanders.
