The last half of 1955 brought an upsurge of federal political activ-

Leaders of. all three opposition pnrties in the Commons made ex- tensive speech-making tours un- matched silica the 1953 election.

Conservative le ii d e r Drew crossed the country in two months speaking to public meetings and groups of party workers. CCF leader Caldwell spoke mainly at public meetings-almost 70 of them chiefly -in small centres. Social Credit leader Low concentrated on the Prairies and Ontario.

Mr. Si. Laurent and his cabinet members didn't match this burst of public travelling and speaking.

While the prime minister could cal an election any time before the summer of 1058, when the five- year life of the present Parliament expires. It is generally believed the next election will be in 1957.

Mr. MacEwaii was for a time, professor and director of,tlle SchnN of Agriculture and Home Econom- ics at the University of Manitoba. In 1952 after a brief period an IC- ricultural editor of the "Western Producer". he assumed his , A position of Manager of the Canadian Beef Producers, Calagry.

Mr. Macl-Ewan was elected to the Alberta Legislature in June. 13. He is a writer of books. the big being, "Between the Red and the Rockies" which is a story of the prairies. This will also be Iie sub- ject of his talk at the Canadian Club meeting here.
