Sr. Lovis, Dec. 8—A cable despatch from Rome says that there has been a marked falling off of receipts of Peter's Pence which constitutes the main source of the Papal rv-nue. It is, therefore, pro- posed at the Vatican to cause to be placed in every Catholic Church throughout the world, a statue of St. Peter, together with an alms box and an appropriate inscription for the collection of Peter’s Pence.

New Yorx, Dec. 8.—The steamer Mobile bas arrived from Londou, having been in collision with a steamer. No doubt the other steamer in the collision war the Corean which put into Halifax two daysago. The Mobile had five plates damaged on her port bow.

Loxp»ox, Dec. 7.—A despatch to the Daily Newe from Shanghai says a_ tele- gram has been received there from Chian Fu asserting that 200 German marines and sailore, with two machine guns, on Decem- ber 3rd, entered the city of Kiao Chau, 18 miles from the Bay, and took possession of the city walls and gates. They were not molested, the Chinese troops retreating as the Germans advanced.

Lonpon, Dec. 7.—A despatch to the Daily Mail from Madrid says that the government has sent detachments of troops to search the region between the provinces of Valencia and Castellon and the district around Morella, where the Carlist agita- tion is most active.

Great preparations are being made for the celebration of the jubiiee in honor of the ministry of Rev. i). Crawford, to be held at New Glasgow, on Thursday, Dec. 16th. The Rev. W.H. Garding is exe pected to be present, and a programme ap- propriate to the occasion will be reu lored.

It is pleasing to notice the increased interest taken by the farmera of this locality in winter dairying. The New Glasgow factorv, under the skilful manage- mnt ot Mr. Charles Stevenson, ie doing excellent work, from steven thousand to eight thoueand pounds of milk are separat- ed each week.

Rev. W. H. Hardiog is expected to lecture in New Glasgow hall on Wednes day Dec. 15th. The lecture will commence at 7.30, p. m. Subject, “How to Le healthy, wealthy and wise.”

We regret to learn that Mr. A. B. Dick- ieson of this place lost a very valuable horse a few days ago.

A LOVER GETS SATISFACTION, Caampersain, 8S. D., Dec. 6.—The suit of Robert J. Ewing against Mathias 8. Drueckler, the father of his sweetheart for assault, has resulted ina verdict tor the complainant, but has been compromis ed.

Drueckler objects to young men keeping company with bis daughters, and generally the young women’s escorts have had to bid them adieu “at the corner” for fear of Drueckler’s wrath. He has aseaulted several of them.

July 5he and his two sons caught Ewing in company with one of the Drueckler girls, and dragging him into the house pounded him unmereitully. Finally Ewing succeeded in escaping.

So severe were his injuries that it waca month before he was able to be about. He then consulted an attorney and a two thousaod dollar damage suit was brought. Thejury thought there was good ground for the suit.
