What then? Are we to curtail the opportunities in thc city, the‘ higher wages offered by the factory or the office? Or are we to increase the attractive- ness of the country so that the ambitious young man or young woman may find there equal if not greater attractions than in the city?

Love of farming will no doubt lure some apart

' altogether from the question of remuneration or of

comfort, its independent life, its ever changing inter eats, its sense of conributing to the -world’s up keep is an attraction that those who experience it can not resist. But the great majority will be lured by the prospects of, a profitable calling, a decent home, schQol and social privileges for the children.

To hold the rural population therefore these things must be taken into account. That farming pays, probably better than anv other of the ordinary callings will be freely granted but in too many cases less attention is given to the manner of life, to the school privileges, to social enjoyment, to the things that make lif-ereally worth living. Very much can be done "by concerted action on ‘the part of rural com- munities; modern improvements so sadly needed in many homes can be added, a more enjoyable social and educative atmosphere may be created. This giv en more attention to there will be less rush to the dingy and uncertain city, more solid comfort on the ‘farm. ‘
