CITY POLICE COURT - At the Sti.-pendlary Magistrate's Court. Sat- urday, a man pleading guilty on two separate charges was sentenced to three months in jail on each. Sent- ences to run concurrently. The first charge was for unlawfully taking a motor vehicle without the own- er's consent, a 1937 Chevrolet sedan on November 13th., while the sec- ond charge was obtaining a 1935 Ford coach by false pretenses with intent to defraud by means of a worthless cheque. The latter lucid- cnt took place on November 28th. No other cases appeared on Satur- day's docket.

ST. PAUL'S CHURCH - In St. Paul's Church yesterday. White Gift Sunday was observed by the Sunday School. The staff, teachers and members in a body, attended the eleven o'clock service, and brought their gifts, which this year are going to another church in the diocese. In the afternoon the Lay- men's choir attended St. John's Church, Milton, and assisted in the service there. At the evening ser- vice the Rector continued his scr- ies of sermons on the book "Let Go, and Let God". and taking the subject "Getting Along With Peo- ple." A major portion of the meeting was spent in discussing the breed- ing qualities and regulations can- comceming the servicing of the as- sociation sire, "The Ace."

Highlighting the change in ser- vicing regulations was the decision of the meeting to charge associat- ion members a five dollar service fee instead of &20.00. the fee for the past: year. The fee provides for three services to the one animal if necessary and is. adoptable only to purebred Hcrefords.

The seven year old sire "The Ace" will be retained by the assoc- iation for another year. The breeders brought. the sire here from Alberta early last winter.

Nearly all the breeders express- ed rcg-ret that they were unable to enter any animals in the Short- hom spring sale held in Char- lottetown last Easter Saturday on account; of private winter sales which depleted the saleable port.- ions of their herds.

The annual 340.00 grant. from the Maritime Hereford Association will probably be used for prize money and calf club work. The meeting left the final decision ab- out spending the money to a. com- mittee appointed to meet the Provincial Exhibition Association.

The breeders, however, favored granting a portion of the money to the new Hereford breeder with the highest prize ratings at the Provincial Exhibition.

A committee of Messrs. Franklin Saundersorn. Fulton Sauridersori and George Hayden was appoint- ed to meet the Provincial Exhibit.- lon Association and discuss . the prize list for next year. '

Another six man committee was appointed to meet the Depart- ment of Agriculture officials this Friday about the securing the annual govemment grant for 1950. This committee is cdmprised of Messrs. George Hayden. George Kitson, Neil Mathesori, Tom Saund- r-.-son, Norris Kitson and Clifford Holmes.

The annual membership fee V2.00 was left unchanged.

This unofficial version of the President's letter was published today in the Washington Daily news. -

All of the Canso and Keswick potatoes available ip the province have been sold and a large number of applicants were unable to get seed. it was learned from Mr. R.C Parent. Superintendent of the Ex- perimental station Saturday. "The keen demand for the new varieties of potatoes shows that, despite low prices for this year. many farmers are optimistically looking to better conditions next year". he stated.

In the distribution just completed; one hundred and seventy-five cert- ified seed growers have received ten bushel lots of the Game potato. eighty-six have received ten bushel lots of the Keswick and sixteen have received fifteen bushel lots of the Keswiek - these were oversize pctaboes. In the latter group it was felt that it would take fifteen bush- els of the oversize to piarit as large an acreage as ten bushels of the regular size potatoes.

Of the above seed T10 bushels of Oariso were grown and distrlhiitcd by Winfred Bridges. Cascumpec. 1.040 bushels of Canso by Edward Buipltt, Roserioath. and 1,100 bush- els of Keswick by William Dover. Dunstaffnage. All three men made a splendid jcb of growing the po- tatoes and distributing them. he stated.

But the prime object of those meetings was "not really to arrive at a lot of cut:-and-dried decisions which can then be announced "

"It is much more to get the kind of friendly and frank discussions in which we understand each other's point of view. which is really much more valuable than writing down something, elaborating it. correcting it and issuing it."

He could not elaborate on the cfficial communique issued follow- ing the Washington balk: because

"I must give any fuller account to my own people at home."

Tirade From Truman

Crit' ' m sounded like what he wrote.

Hume himself said the published version was almost word-for-word with the letter he received. except that it left out a couple of para- graphs. There were hints that the full version contained language at least equally strong.

Hume, 84. declined to make the full text public. He said in a state- ment:

"I can only say that a man suffering the loss of a close friend and carrying the terrible burden of the present world crisis ought to he indulged in an occasional out- burst of temper."

The reference was to Charles 6. Ross. Truman's secretary and long-time friend, who died a few hoigrs before Miss Truman's con- cer .

Hume said in his review of the concert that Miss Truman "can not sing very well" and "is flat is good deal of the time."

"It is an extremely unpleasant duty to record such unhappy facts about so honestly appealing a personality."

Hume is 32 years younger than the 66-year-old President, and weighs 165 pounds to Tr-iiman's 180 or more. Friends said he had no in- tention of engaging in any contro- versy, fistlc or otherwise, with the President.
