A severe blizzard held the Island in its grip from early yesterday af- ternoon till late in the afternoon, when it abruptly terminated. A large quantity of snow fell during the day, making travel on the roads imposs- ible, and holding up practically nil traffic in the City.

After the storm, the weather clear- ed with surprising rapidity. 'I'he snow plough began operations in the City opening the streets to traffic. The plough will begin clearing the roads adjacent to the City today. Citizens took advantage of weather conditions to have the snow on the, sidewalks in front of their premises removed. 1

All trains were running behind schedule yesterday on account of the heavy snow filling the railway lines. There was no rail communication west of Summerside, and at a late hour last night the Murray Harbor train, which had left for Charlotte- town at 8 a. m., had reached Lake Verde. The Car Ferry, after cross- ing to Tormentine in tlic morning, left on return at 7.20 p, m. andarriv- ed in Borden at 8.20. The train from Souris and Georgetown arrived at 4.50 p. m., about six hours late, while the train from Summerside arrived at 11.55 s. m. Plough extras were despatched to Borden, Summerside and Elmira to keep the lines open. The line between Tignish and Sum- merside will be opened this morning. About sixty extra men are snow fighting on the road.
