Cardigan Notes,

The annual] school meeting at Cardigan Bridge School was attended by a great num- ber of ratepayers. Mr. John J. Campbell was appointed Chairman.

Hugh L. Macdonald, Esq., M. P. P., was appointed a Trustee in place of Wm. P. Lewis, Esq., J. P., whose term of office had expired.

The Secretary of Trustees, Mr. John Parker, submitted his accounts and report for the past year, which were approved of, and great praise was given Mr. Parker for the excellent manner in which the accounts were kept.

The school at Cardigan Bridge is making rapid progress, and Mr. Montgomery, Chief Superintendent of Education, in his report for 1886, page 53, says :

*“CarpicaN—Isabella Dewar, Principal- This School has made considerable progress since it was graded. The new building in this district isa great credit to the Trustees and other ratepayeis. The furniture is good, and altogether it is one of the best in the County.”

‘The Principal, Miss Dewar, having re- signed, the Trustees were instructed to obtain a first-class or Grammar School Teacher, and a liberal supplement was voted for both the Principal and the Assist- ant Teacher. Other business having been transacted the meeting adjourned.

Shipping is active at Cardigan this sum- mer. The schooner Cardigan sailed for St. Pierre on the 22nd inst. with acargo of cattle, potatoes, etc., shipped by James E. Macdonald, Esq. The schr. Wave has been loaded this week with potatoes and oats by Mr. Wm. Minto. The schr. Emma Procter is fitting out fora trading voyage, and two smal] schooners with lumber are in port. James E. MacDonald, Esq., has a vessel of about 150 tons in frame that appears to have an excellent model.

Great interest is taken in the Tea Party to be held near Cardigan Station on Friday, July 1st inst. (Dominion Day.) An active committee of ladies and young men have the affair in charge, and all persons attend- ing may be sure of having a gvod time. The Jubilee Baby Show is the principal subject of discussion, the merits of the rival babies eliciting some lively disputes. Every one should come and see the first baby show ever held on this Island. The celebration of the Jubilee in Charlottetown will be nothing like as interesting.

Mr. Lemuel T. wen, Agent of the Canada Pacific Railway at Emerson, Mani- tuba, is on a visit to his friends here. Mr. Owen is not in very good health, and has obtained some months leave of absence to recruit. Previous to his leaving Emerson, he was presented with an address, and a very fine gold mounted ebony walking stick as an evidence of the satisfaction he had given in the discharge of his official duties.

At the Wild West show in London, the other day, the Princess of Wales, with her two sons and three daughters, took a ride in the Deadwood stage, after patronizing the toboggan slide and switchback railway.
