“Ina suit which [brought against thia Jacob Townsend and Thompson, Skilman & Co., the firm by which he was employed, the so styléd old Doctor recently made affidavit that he had no interest’ whatever in the Sarsaparilla to which his name is affixed, aud asks the court to let him off on that ground.

“ Furthermore, I am the sole author and discoverer and tne origin | proprietor of the medicine known as * Dr Townsend’s Sarsaparilia.” Ihave never offered old Jacob Townsend a penny for his recipe, but was engaged in manufacturing the Compound Extrect of Sarsaparrilla for nearly ‘eight years before he or any one aise, taking advantage of the great pdpu- larity of this medicine, undertook to counterfeit either the article or the name.”

THE ARTIFICIAL SLAT Eis the pro- * duct of a mixture of mineral sub- stances known to be the best non-conduc- tors of heat as well as the mst indes- tructible; the Chemical affinity of which, converts the surfaces of materials covered intoa Coating of Actual Slate—Prouf, agains: Fire and Warer. ‘Thus the laws of nature are made to accomplish results, as surprising as they are useful, by rendering wooden fabricks ag durable as Brick or Stone, and less impervious to moisture, and consequently prevent- ing decay and destruction from corroding influences hitherto supposed unattainable. The principal ingredients are Alumina, Silica and the Oxides of Iron. The ad- hesive quality of the latter, not only binds but attracks the particles together, but the substance covered also. The longer exposed to the weather the more power- ful the attraction, and consequently the harder the Slate. As various shades of colour are obtained, Brick Buildings may be made impervious to moisture and the fashionable colours of either Free Stone or Granite. The oi] must be evaporated by the action of the weather’before it is Fire proof, which will take from nine to twelve months, The Meratuic PAINTS, Purple and Red, are offered as Weather and Water proof solely. Their base being Iron, se- cures them from Galvanic action, so fatal to lead and other Paints on Iron work— and their chemical combination makes it impossible that any change should take place from atmospheric influence or the action of Salt Water’ and Sulphurated hydrogen, so. prevalent in Sea Ports and tidal Harbours. They surpass al] Paints yet discovered in Cheapness and Durabi- lity, which render them premminently ad- apted to the covering of al! kindsof Jron- work, such a8 Shipping, Mills, Bridges, Steam Machihery, Railway Cars, and Iron Railing. ‘The Metallic Paints have been analysed by Professor Hays, of Boston. The following is an extract from his certificate :— “ As a permanent pigment, this miner- a] must rank with the most indestructable and unchangeable bases. For covering Metallic Ware, its com- position shews that it is eminently fitted. “Signed, “ AUGT. A.
