This invention provides a long felt want for the printing craft Various methods have beeu in vogue in the art of printing, for the taking of galley proofs, ranging from the use of mallet and planer te that of a proof press having a stationary bed and a heavy roller covered with felt or cloth. In all these constructions, however, it is mecessery that the paper used should be dampened prior to use in order that a clean proof may result, the attempt to take it dry producing an imper- fect result. To obviate these disadvantages Buote’s Proof Press is cons- tructed with a movable bed, the impression rollers being stationary, ai- lowing of the use of a pressure regulating mechanism ; it also provides paper rolls at opposite ends by means of which the proofs can be taken rapidly. The Press is neat and attractive in appearance, durable in cons- truction, siraple and efficient in operation and can be made at a 1mo- derate cost. Not only can Buote’s Proof Press be used for proofs but it can also be used for posters and hundreds of jobs which comes vrithin the range of country ofhces.

Les signes avant-conreurs d'une crise se manifestaient de- puis assez longtemps mais ja orise elle-même a éolaté quand le gouvernement a tenté de faire adopter par les ehambres le projet de loi dit de Salut Pa blie. 6e projet de loi dont la lettre ne vise apparemment que les émeutes et les séditions tend par son esprit à supprimer la liberté de parele et le droit de réunien.

Pendant six semaines le gou- vernement s'est effloreé de le faire adopter en face de l'oppe- eition des socialistes et des ré- publieains qui a fini par dégé-

lutionnaire des plus dangereux.

Pour arriver à ses fins, le gouvernement italien a tenté d'investir le président de ia chambre du droit de clôture, #e qui lui eut permis de retirer la parole aux députés de l'epposi- tion, mais les séances de la ehambre ont dû être ajournées chaque jsar à cause du tumulte et des bagarres soulevés par les socialistes et des répubiicains. C'est au ceurs de l'une de ees discussions tumnlitueuses que signor Pantage a prononcé une haraugue qui a éleotrisé l’As semblée Constituante, baran- gue dans laquelle il demandait l'élection de l’Assemblée, par le plébiscitaire et la réforme de la constitution.

L'expression d'un sentiment aussi franchement révolution- paire provoqua nne seène indes- criptible. Les députés firent en tendre tout un concert de €la- mevrs contradictoires ; le pré- sident fit entendre des rappels à l’erdre, des supplications, des menaces et finalement dut le. ver la séance au milien des eris :

À Naples, l'aniversité dut fermer ses por- tes à cause des bagarres jeurna lières centre les étudiants socia- listes et les étudiants monar- chistes provoquées par une re marque insultante à l'adresse de l’ane des princesses. À Bologne, les étudiants se sont insurgés en faveur de Pantano A Turin, les socialistes ont aussi mani festé en faveur de Pantano. A Milan. les autorités pressées par le roi lui-même ont eoupé court aux manifestations en suppri- mant ie droit de réunion.

Alarmé de toute cette agita- totion, le roi a fini par donner ordre au gouvernement de ne pas insister sur l'adoption du projet de loi. Pelloux eut beau protester, le rei ne voulut pas revenir sur sa détermination, ce que voyant le gouvernement retira le bill avant même qu'une seale clause en eût été adoptée.
