PEIPmG, April 17.-(A.P.)—Fear- ing that British mines in the area south of the Great Wall of China might be crippled as the result of hostilities there between the troops of Manchukuo and the Chinese, the British Lcgation today renewed its efforts to obtain protection for the mines.

Representatives were made to Jap- anese officials, who were asked to safeguard the Kailan mining admin; istration at Tangshan. These mines were organized in 1900 and the en- terprlse employs 40,000 Chinese.

The Kailan development is mid- way between Tlentsin and Chin- wangtao, in the region where troops of Japan and Msnchukuo have been pushing back the Chinese forces.
