How a Woman Does It

Heavy Damages to Mrs. Weldon

£10,000 REWARD.

The case Weldon rv. Gounod came on on Thursday at the Sheriff Court, Red Ision Square, London, before Under- Sheriff Burchell and a special jary, whose special duty was to assess the damages in the action bronght by Mrs. Weldon against M. Gounod, the cele- brated composer, the defendant having withdrawa his defence. The counsel for Mrs Weldon were Mr Bowen Row- lands, Q.C., M.P., Mr Rose Innes, and Mr Philips. The Hono. Alfred Lyttle-

ton represented M. Gounod. The action was brought for slander, litel, breach of contract, and assault. The Under-Sheriff characterised the libel

as scurrilous and abominable, and the jury awarded Mrs Weldon £10,000 damages, ip addition to £1640 tor which jadgment has already been signed for board and jodging and the performance of secretarial duties. Mrs Weldon, who gave evidence in support of her case, was brought up by the Governor of Holloway Gaol, undera_ writ of habeas corpus ad testificandum. <<.

Politeness at Table.

Some friends were being entertained ut dinner, and Bobby for some reason had been allowed to come to table.
