A wNoumpeR of cattle from the steamer “Ontario” were landed in Liverpool, Eng., on the 25th, suffering from foot and mouth disease. Lord Carlington, in bringing the matter to the notice of the House of Lords, said that such strict precautions had been taken with the ‘‘Ontario’s” cargo that there was ne fear of the disease spreading. There wasa good reason to believe the disease originated in Liverpool, as the ‘“‘Ontario” took to Portlend a cargo of Herefords which showed } the disease after landing, and it is not believed that the places of detention in Portland are in- fected. ‘{he inspectors at Liverpool await the earge due Wednesday last from Portland
