The Royal Commission report summarizes evidence given in the briefs put forward by Northum- berland hrries Limited which operates the Wood fsland-Caribou ferry service and by West Point Perriea Limited which proposes to establish ferries between West Point and Buctouche. It reached the conclusion that in each case. the main question was one of fin- ancial assistance to these compan- iss.

Application by the West Point Ferries Limited to the Maritime Commission for a subsidy to pro- ceed with its new project was denied. the report notes. It con- tinues:

The Provincial Government is going to sell the motor vessel Eskimo to "private capital," it was announced last night in the Legislature by Premier J. Walter Jones.

"We have interested private cap- ital In taking over the Eskimo and we are going to give it to them.” be said. "They will form a eons- pany tint so that they may be eligible to obtain a subsidy from the Dominion Government."

He did not say who the prospect- ive purchasers were.

"We want to get the. Eskimo established in trade along the Northern coast of the St. Lawrence in places like Seven islands which will have is population of 30,000 people."

MONTREAL. March lo.- (CP) - Two armed bandits, their faces muffled in dirty handkerchiefs and multi-colored scarves. - scooped up between 810.000 and 314,000 today from an east-end bank branch in the city's llth bank holdup this year.

Eyewitneases- said the two men burst into the bank about 11 A. M. while two women customers were at the two wickets of the Banque Provinciaie du Canada branch.

One bandit went to the office of manager J. L. Turcotte, poked a .45- calibre revolver under his nose and said: "Come on, come on."

Turcotte followed the bandit into the main office where the second gunman had herded the seven em- ployees and two customers. They forced them into the vault, then

started scooping cash from the tellers' cages. Apparently fearing an alarm

might be' turned in from the vault. the bandits marched the nine pris- oners out again and forced them to lie on the floor on their atom- achs.

After stowlng away all the loose money, the two fled, trampling over their prone prisoners on the way to the door.

The Royal Our mission on Trans- portation today recommended a new national transportation policy of co-ordlnatlng all Federally- controlled carriers and a new deal in rail freight rates thrugh Can- ada-wide equalization with the aid of a 37,000,000-a-year subsidy.

The 200.000-word report of the three-man Commission. drafted after an historic two-year investi- gation. was tabled in the Com- mcins by Prime Minister St. Laur- en .

The Commission under Hon. W. F. A. Turgeon, Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland and former Saskatchewan Chief Justice, pro- posed a single body-instead of the existing three-to regulate and correlate rail, water and air transport. pipelines and such highway traffic as the Federal Government considers it has auth-

ority to control.

That would take in lnterpro- vincisl and international truck and bus operations. a disputed field where the Federal and sever- al Provincial Governments are fighting for jurisdiction. The issue now is before the Supreme Court of Canada.

The Commission said the new board should regulate the carriers so they would serve. individually and as a whole, in meeting the country's needs. It would replace the existing Board of Transport Commissioners (rail, some inland shipping, pipelines. telephones). the Air Transport Board and the Canadian Maritime Commission (shipping and shipbuilding).
