A private letter from an oflicer on board :0 of the French ships near Sebastopol, ted the l3th ultimo, speaks of the recom- menccment of _ the bombardment and the assault as imminent. The young oflicer in ‘l“"l|0n had been for 37 days in the ‘finches, and, owing to fatigue and the bad weather, w_as reduced to the lowest ebb by d _scn_tery, jaundice, fcver—in fact, a com- p ication of disorders. He had been order- ed home for three months to recover his‘ strength, but declined to avail himself of his leave, as he desired to witness the can-

nonade, which he says was ex ted to- wards the end of December. he ships were to take part in the attack. The num-

ber of batteries completely armed and well supplied was, according to his lettcr,28. The storrning was to commence early in the morning after the first day ’s cannonade. Few in the French camp seemed to have a doubt as to the result.

Another letter from an ofiicer of Chas- seurs, gives similar intelli once as to the expected bombardment an storming. The French had been taught by the Turks to construct huts in the same manner as the soldiers in Bulgaria, diggin holes and covering them in with low wal s and a roof. The ollicer mentions that when digging the hole for his but, some few days before, to his great surprise, he found a quantity of plate, china, several articles of ele ant furniture, among them a commode or c eat of drawers, of excellent workmanship, and even a lady's bonnet, of recent make and fashion, with the name inside of a well
