In fact, you cannot call them migratory birds" and they sure don't frequent the places where the Yankees have the "crisis! We know that the circulation started in the States, the same as that of sixteen years ago, and we in this Province have had to dance to the tune of the American sportsmen ever since. Records show that these different states have had droughts before. but we never heard of this terrible “duck crisis." Perhaps their ducks are favoured with the know- ledge that the “Migratory Bird Treaty," expired on the 10th of Aug- ust this year, and these ducks may go on strike until the treaty is re-

When I was l. youngster at school I can remember that the teacher in one class tried to get one of my school mates (who was left handed) to try and write with the right hand. She thought left hsndedness was a defect. In the next room above he was allowed to write with his left hand. This teacher thought left handedness was a normal con- dition.

I have often wondered since, which of these teachers was right, but it was Just recently that I found out.

Dr. Ralph Haefner, of Columbia University has settled this question as to whether or not the left hand- ed child is less bright than the right handed child. Long severe tests were made to try and find out the rola- tion between “handedness" and in- telligence; and whether it would be worth while by systematic training, to turn naturally left handed child- ren into right handed ones.

Iipr this purpose sixty-eight pairs of representative children were sel- ected from the school's total enrol- ment of eleven hundred. One of each pair was left-handed, the other right handed, and each of the pair corresponded to the other in sex, age, standing in school, and in gen- eral all round conditions.

What did they find?

That left-handed children are in every way normal. They are inter- ested in as many games as the right-handed children, they are equally bright, think equally fast, make decisions as quickly, and are

school problems, and their personal appearances, as are right handed children. ‘ Now it cannot be denied that speech disorders such as stammerlng and stuttering are found more often in left handed-child than in those who are right-handed. but Dr. Haefner says that this is not clue to the fact that they are left-hand;- ed, but to the fact that teaclie and parents are really responsible for this because of their efforts to make the youngster do things right-hand- ed. This scolding. correcting, and punishing of left-handed youngsters to try and make them do things _ right-handed, so aifectsthe young- sters nervous system that stammer- ing and stuttering may result.
