—Tide tables for Charlottetown, Pictou and St. Panl’s Island for 1898, with tidal differences for Northumberland Strait, and for the open Gulf shore along the vorth coast of Prince Edward Island, have been published by the tidal survey branch of the Department of Marine and Fisheries. The importance of such tables prepared from accurate measurements has been much dwelt on by those in 4 position to speak with suthority. We are indebted to the department for a copy.

The daily arrivals at St. Lambert, where they get off the American trains to go east is increasing. The con- ductor of the train cn which a number of them came in a few days ago, who was askel where they were were going, and why they were leaving the United States, said the chief cause was strikes in the manufacturing towns which left the em-> p'oyees without work and food. How. Mr. Gordon asked what decision the government had arr:ved at in the mat-
ter of the election in the Fourth District of Kiug’s County and the return of Mr. Meclkiinnon ;
Hon. Mr. Warbarton said the govern-
ment had looked into the matter and as- cevteined that the proper course to pursue would be to enter the report of Mr. Justice Hodgson upon the Jouraa!s of the Houre, and made a motion to this effect. ,
Hon. Mr. Gordon seconded the motios which was adopted.
Hon. Mr. Warburten then the return of the writ of said ainended in accordance with the report of Mr. Justice Hodgson and that Mr. Me- Kinnoo be sworn in and allowed to take his seat.
Mr. Shaw objected to the use of the word “allowed” in this connection. It was establishing a precedent and care should te taken. A person whois entitled to a seat in the House should bave the right to take it without snch a formality. Under sach a resolution a man who is entiiled to a seat might be kept out of it by a majority vote of the Honse.
Hon. Mr. Warburton said the House was the proper place to settle euch matters, and the rigt t course was being pureued.
Hon. Mr. Gordon thought it should be provided that the member-elect appear with all convenient speedand take his seat.
Mr. A. Peters thought it was quite com- peteat for the House to dispore of matters of this kind. The House had the right to accept or reject such a resolution.
The resolution was then put and carried.
Hoo. Mr. Warburton moved that ihe Lieutenani-~Governor be notified of Judge Hodgson’s report with regard to Mr. Mc- Kinnon’s election. Carried.
