One of the hot topics in financial aid news these days is the Canada Student Loan and its appeal procedure. I would like to point out two things: 1. If you aren’t satisfied with your loan assessment, for a legitimate reason, you have a right to appeal; 2. Many appeals are handled very routinely through the Student Aid branch of the Dept. of Education.
Steps for appealing your student loan: ,_ ~
1. There is no deadline for appeals. Although it is in your interest to file an appeal as soon as possible.
2. You can appeal if: '
— you didn’t receive the amount of award requested — if your award was adjusted
3. You may appeal any of the‘following: assessed student contribution, assessed parental contributions and/or assessed educational costs. The usual basis for appeal is an extenuating circumstance. However, even if your reason isn’t a common one don’t hesitate to appeal if you can’tmeet your expenses for the coming year. '
4. Your student contribution may be appealed ,
— due to exceptionally low income ' —— due to unemployment ' — 'if you attended intercession courses or summer school
5. Parental contribution appeals will be considered in the case of I
—— funeral — legal fees weddings - dependent relatives unavoidable home emergency home repairs strikes, unemployment, illness that affected income
6. Appeals for educational costs will/ be considered based on an increase in the cost following the original application for loan. ' ‘ '

BUSINESS SOCIETY
Welcome to what will hopefully be the first in a long line of exhilerating jour- nalistic endeavours from the U.P.E.I. Business Society. This column’s main objective will be to inform the student body, in particular, Business Students, of the activities Of the U.P.E.I. Business Society.
Since the beginning Of the school year, the business fa- culty has been participating in several fun-filled events for the “elite” students and profs.
On Saturday, September 14th, approximately 18 eager fishermen set out from Cove- head Harbour o a deep sea fishing expeditio with sights
high for a great catch.
The annual Business So— ciety Golf Tournament took place on Friday, September 20th, at Stanhope Golf Course with 60 entrants in the fall classic.
Several prizes were awarded with lowest male score going to Darren Riggs, who shot a 78 in regulation play, tied with Kesti Eimantis. After two playoff holes. Mr. Riggs emerged the victor. 'Lowest female score went to Chris MacLauchlan with a 92. The well attended event was en- joyed by all, both on the course and in the club house. Professor J.J. Revell was
among the first golfers out and his attendance and sup- port were appreciated. Pro— fessor T. Carroll and his wife were also at the presentations and post—tourney party at Reggie and Kevin’s place. It was a great party — espe- cially the card game.
The first executive business luncheon will be held on October 23, 1985, with guest speaker Orin Carver of Regal Petroleum. All are welcome.
Well, that’s it for now, hopefully we’ll get a little more exciting throughout the year. Oh, to Wayne and Doug, sorry guys, but we did not take yOur large sign!
