The proceedings were enlivened with songs and recitations from Captain Weeks, Sergeant-Major Grey, Corporal Heartz, Sapper Good, Sapper Anderson, Sapper Wakeling, Bugler Stair and others.
About one o'clock the strains of ‘* Auld Lang Syne” and ‘*God Save the Queen” were heard, and the party broke up well pleased with the manner in which they had been entertained by Captain Weeks and the host and hostess of the Osborne.

WE understand that there will be races at Upton Park on Saturday, the 15th October next, The programme will consist of a stallion race fora gold medal with a sweepstake and the championship of the Maritime Provinces. The celebrated stal- lions Hernando, Island Chief and Black Pilot will represent the Island contingent, and there will probably be three or more from the neighboring provinces. There will also be a green race for a purse of $75 and a sweepstake’s gentleman’s driving race. There will probably be a match race “be- tween the well-known trotters Maud R. and Nellie T. and Captain McLeod’s bay horse. Particulars in a few days.
A match race for $50 a side is announced to take place at Peake’sSiation on Satur- day. The contestant’s will be Mr. A. D. Dunphy’s horse Scott Act and H. J. Ken- nedy’s mare Nellie T.

Railway, at River John, Pietou-Co.; Nova Scotia, on and after the ist day of October, 1887, when the general s pecifi- cation and form of tender may be obtaineu apon application.
No tender will be entertained unless on one of the printed furms and all the conditions are com- plied with.
