Dear instructor and friend,—We, the committee representing the students of the Charlottetown Business College and Writing Academy and Prince of Wales College desire to convey to you, on bebalf of our respective associates, an expression of our sincerest gratitude forthe very pleasant and enjoyable excursion which it hae been our privilege to enjoy through your benevolent action.

This, to us, is but another token of the kindness which we bave invariably receiv» ed at your hands since recording our names as students udder your trustworthy guidance.

Dull would be the soul whose desires would not be deepened and whose actions would not be intensified by such a pleasant outing, which proved to be in every sense an ideal one.

We de not wish toprolong this address by a delineation of the pictureequeness of the scenery and the beauties of nature up- on which it has been our privilege to gaze. In conclusion, sir, we wish to say to you that these bumble remarks convey but a elight expreesion of the sincere sense of gratitude entertained by ua for you for euch an admirable act of kindness, which in after years shal] be looked back upon with many fond recollections,

He entered the 60th Rifles in 1858, and served in China, in the Red River expedition, the Ashanti war, the Kefiir war and the Zulu war of 1878-79, for an episode in which he received his V.C. Becoming Deputy Adjutant-Gen- eral in 1885, Sir Redvers afterwards stray~ ed for a brief time into politics as Under Secretary for Ireland in 1887, and since 1890 he has been Adjutant~General. Something of his advancement he perhaps owes tothe warm personal frieadship of Lord Wolseley.

A Mean Joxe.—Some one played a mean joke oa a Chicago detective. He was sent to @ house where lived a girl who was much given to practicing on the piano. He met the g:rl and asked her what she knew about “the affair.” “I don’t unders stand,” she replied, “Why, you see,” re- joined the detective, “‘we got a tip from the boarding house next door that somebody here bas been murdering Wagner, and the authorities have sent me here to follow up the case.
