Orrawa, Dec. 1.—The Minister of Militia was asked yesterday for a state- went in reference to the difficulty between General Gascoigne and the officers of the €6th Regiment Dr. Borden sad: “The | General disavows any intention of retlecting on the conduct of the officers of the 66th, | or to wound either their honor or dignity. He regrets that such acovstruction snouid bave been placed upon anvthing he said. He has po:nted out that his object was to put a stop to the practice of army reserve mes enlisting in the militia and that he war alluding to the men rather than to the officers. The General does not wish- draw at all from his previously expressed order against the eulistment of armv reserve men. The minister added tat he was in bopes that the explanation, which would be communicated to Colonel Iriviog for transmission to the ofticers of the 66tb, would be sa.isfactory to all the parties concerned.
