Taylor said he and Montgomery's manager, Joe Granby, prevailed upon the Bobcat to quit because of his showing in two recent defeats.

Montgomery will not" go ihrougih with his scheduled Feb. 20 return bout with Ike Williams for the lightweight title,

"We thought that in view of Bob's last two showings it was t'me for him to retire." said Taylor. "He's very well fixed ftoncially and we prevailed upon him to call it

quits."

Montgomery was the New York- Pennsylvania 135-pound king until last August, when Williams. Nat- ional Boxing Association titleholder, knocked him out to win undisputed possession of the crown. The Bob- cat lost a IO-round decision at Bos- ton this week to Joey Angelo of Providence. RI. '

Charlie Cheverieh goal with but seven seconds of play remaining yesterday gave Team A of the Queen square School Hockey Lea- quc their first wim of the season the counter sending Team B clown to their ill-st defeat of the league. Score -was 4-3.

The losers were playing wihout the services of goalie Lorne Burke and forwards llay Dunn and Claude Field.

The two outstanding players on the ice were Kenny Tulle in A's goal and Joe Ooyle on defence and in goal for Team B.

Bucky Cannon shot a brace for Team A with Stull and Cheveirie tallying the others. Gump Glllis also shot two goals with Leonard accounting for the other.

The tiny plane was reported missing Wednesday after it failed to reach Buchans on an unsched. uled fllghl.

Today BlackwOod relporierl that he had intended to land at Buch- ans but found the snowstorm too bad and could not locate the land- ing strip. Flying low he landed on a frozen lake where he remained all night.

When the weather cleared he look off and landed at Buchana safely.

Hawks And Crescents Battle To 4 - all Draw

MONCTON. N. 13., Dec. 26— (cP)-Moncton Hawks, battling desperately to close the three-point gap between themselves and lea- gue-leading Truro night had to content themselves with a 4-4 tie and a single point in a Maritime Senior Hockey Lea gue game with Halifax Crescents.

Hawks twice came from behind to keep even with fast-skating crescents in a game that started off in a blaze of speed. slowed w almost a walk on occasions and produced a large portion of ragged play after the first period.

The Monctonians played without two of their regulars, star goalie Hughle MacDonald and rugged Ray Leger. both of whom were spending Christmas in their re- spectlve homes at Trenton. N. 5-. and Montreal. Diminutive Fred Bonier filled in for Monet/an in Hawks’ cage and turned in a Bond performance.

Highlight of the game was the first appearance of Swede Poulson. formerly oi Lachine Rapids in the Quebec Provincial League. M101‘! a Moncton audience. The slight winger was used experimentally on all three lines and appeared to best advantage as a smooth puck earlier while working on a line with George Bell and scoring star Buck Whitlock although he failed to figure in the scoring.
