Suppexy Deara.—The Farmer reports that Mrs. Barlow, wife of Mr. William Bar-

low, of Wellington Mills, died quite suddenly on Saturday night, the 20th ult. She took ill about five o’clock that even- ing aud. before the clock had struck the hour of midnight she had expired. As soon as she became ill, Dr. Gailant was

hestily summoned, but he was unable to do anything to save her life, the troul e being hemorrhage ot the brain. .As wouiu be expected from such a malady, she never spoke after the attack. The de- seeased before marriage wax Miss Jane Mc- Auslin, and ‘a sister of Mr. Samuel McAus- lin and other brothers of. Tyne Valley. The funeral tok place on Tuesday, thre 23rd ult., and it wasa lange one, the re- mains being buried in the Presbyterian churchyard at Tyne Valley.

H. McLeod, merchant, and was suitably replied to by Mr. Marley. Upwards of thirty sat down to supper, which was gotten up in Mrs. McGuigan’s best style, which is not tying a iittle. Amongst the instrumental and vocal performers of the evening were Miss Katie A. McLean, Janette and Sarah May McLeod and Ida Hughes. Those wio responded to the toasts were Mr. G. H. McGuigan, G H McLeod, Patrick Rona- ghan, Mr. Bell and McDonald. We wish Mr. Manley, God-speed.

The allusion made to the Tignish Drugstore by “Fairplay” io hts honey-mouth d language comes in with very bad grace, when only a few days previous the gentlemen keeping the drug store were most unjustly, and for a pur- pose, charged with being the cau-e of the drunkenness then existing in Tiguish. Aslap at the Cnservatives, as can be plainiy seen by the drift of hia letter, is the aim of the individnal who gives him- self the misnomer of Fairplay. Itis an attempt, but a miserable one, made to lead the public to believe that nothing which is good, nothing which is honorable, can emanate in Tignish but from the dear grit family. Fairpiay—Foulplay woald be more suitable—undoubtedly belongs to that class that always puts politics before everything else—from the Lord’s prayer right down to a glass of beer.

The mass of the people in ovr midst are abstainers, thank God; but let it be weli unders!oud that the ol s-rvance of temper- ance is due to higher and more heaven'y motives than the manoeuvres of Broderick and those who lug him on their beck,

Hen. Mr. Gordon continued the debate on the a idress and criticised the Governor’s speech. In his opinion the Dominion Government ought to furnish cold storage without ad from the Province and sboald also furnish the additional railway accom modation to which this province is jusily entitled. The intimation that a bridge is to be built across the Hillsborough is a sure sign that an election is at hand. Of course tne Government don’t mean what they say. He had heard a very promine: t and well-informed supporter of their party (Captain William Welsh) ridicule the idea aad declare, as late as Wednes- day last, that “only a madman would attempt to bridge tue Hillsborough from Chariottetown to Southport.” As to the vaunted road machines, he believed them to be of little value, particularly where the r_ads were narrow. Mr. Gordon closed ay referring to the change that had taken place in public opinion as aresult of the deceit- ful,unfulfilled promises of the Government.

Hon. Mr. Peters thought the Province ought to be Lappy inthe fact that the Tories were out aud the good Queen reigns. Certainly the peoplehad made a noble re- sponse to the call from India. He was eur- prised to heas the Leader of the Opposition, speaking for his party, say that be thought the Dominion Government should do all towards the supply of Cold Storage and the Province do nothing. In view of the hostile commercial policy of the United States, and the improved facilities for trade with Great Britain afforded in otber parts of Canada, cold storage for P. KE. Island is essential to the coutinued pros- perity of its farmers. As to the bridging of the Hillsborough, he took issue against the Leader of the Opposition and Ca; tain Welsh. The Leader of the Opposition had referred tothe road machines as beivg unfit for narrow roads. It is evident, at ail events, that he and bis party are io a narrow road. (Applause).

Mr. Shaw said that the Leader of the Government had lately been rubbing noses with politicians and counsel across the line and had come home impregnated with thdir characteri-tic buncombe. His reference to the Opposition in the narrow road was* not happy, inasmuch as it is “the broad road that Jeadeth to destruction.” That is the road which bas been taken by the leader of the Governmentand his party —and they are in a fair way to be politically destroyed by the people at the
