The Murray Harbour school hockey team had their first game of the season on Tuesday evening January 20th. when they met and defeated by a 9-5 score the heav- ier hard hitting sextette from Mur- ray Harbour North. The visitors. though outpla ed at periods, were in there figh mg every minute of the game and, with the outstand- ing support which they receive from their home fans, will no doubt be heard from again with more telling effect before the season is over.

on Saturday, January l0th the Murray River Public Library open- ed for business in the new build- 'fng. This building is not completed due to the lateness of the season but when it is painted and the grounds graded, with the hope of having some shnlbbery planted in the spring, it will be a credit to Murray River and surrounding dis- tricts. Much credit is due those who gave labor materials and money to this worthy project.

The recent mild weather has doomed the ice on the river and smelt fishers will have to get their boats out if it doesn't freeze up soon again.

..tMr. Owen Kelly. who has been with the Bank of Nova Scotla for a number of years, serving both here and with mainland branches, .and for some years on the Char- lottetown staff, resigned his po- sltion on Saturday, January 17th to accept a position on the main- land. All will wish him success in his new venture.

Miss Mabel O'Brien, a- national director of the C. T. F., arrived home from Ottawa on Thursday night, January 22nd after attend- ing in directorsl meeting in the capital city. She reports a lovely trip and a successful meeting.

Those who have watched for years for Somerled Kelly and his grey truck, for lift: to the City in the mornings will watch in vain in future as Mr. Kelly has re- placed his truck with a new car for his business. Many will miss the Kelly trugk at the same time, morning after morning, winter and summer.

Friends of Miss Bertha Mac- Donald wlll be pleased to learn she is getting around again after an operation on her foot. on Jan- uary 20ih. Miss MacDonald ln- jured her loot some years ago and was ordered to the hospital re- cently to have an operation per- formed.

It is learned from the pastor of Little Flower Church that most of those who subscribed to the, Bishop's building fund last sum- mer have paid up well, which is good news for the parish.

Many will learn with regret of the sudden passing of Mr. James Lund, at Mt. Stewart on January 23rd at the early age of 44 years, and the sincere sympathy of this community is being extended to his family.

Mrs. Blois MacEwen entertained the members of sterling W.I., Stanley Bridge, at her home for their January meeting. The presi- dent, Mrs. Elmer Fyfe, presided and the meeting opened by singing "O Canada" followed by the Creed in unison. There were sixteen mem- bers and two visitors present.

The roll call was answered by a one minute talk on "Our Banquet". The minutes were read and approved and the secretary gave report of expenses for the banquet. The school committee report was given by Mrs C.A. Woolner. She also presented bills for radio cabinet and flags for the school. In the vis- izlng committee report Mrs. Ray Douglas reported boxes were back- ed for shut-ins at Christmas. Treats were given to the sick and money and flowers were given to patients in the hospital. It was moved and seconded that bills to 'the amount of 328.35 be paid.
