Dropping into Millner’s Tin Shop the other day, we saw several telephones in the course of prepara- tion, Mr. Millner has already manufactured and pat up three, which give perfect satisfac. tion. one at G. Lewis’ Photograph Rooms, ene at John Dorsey's Boot and Shoe Store, ‘and one at his own Tin Shop. We believe the cost of the telephone is but a mere trifle. Late on Saturday evening a wire was stretched on the shooting grounds, frem buli’s-eye 1200 feet, and the telephone fixed. The effect was splendid.

Ratuway Visrrors.—'The party of Railway visitors who passed over the railway by ial train on Saturday, consisted of H. D. eLeced, Superintendent of the St. John & Maine Railway, St. Jehn; W. F. NEWS BY TELEGRAPH, CANADIAN. Gipson, Nov. 5. Mr. P. A. Logan will vacate the office of Mechanical Superintendent of the Railway here on Saturday evening. His successor, Mr. Jesse Mathews, at present a résident of Fredericton, with large mechanical ex- perience obtained in the United States and the Provinces, commenced his duties to- day. The sudden change adds additional interest to the general excitement.

At a Land League meeting yesterday, Parnell said he had reason to believe that the Government desired to postpone the trial until January term which w ould pre- vent those traversgrs who are members of Parliament from taking their seats at the meeting of Parliament in February. Parne!l complained of being watched by detectives. He said if they followed him to his home he would have them put in the river. He gave a long account of the law of couspiracy which he said was obsolete. *He urged the branches of the Land League to send con- tributions for the defence. Parnell, in the course of his speech, made a personal attack on Forster.

The state prosecutions against the indicted members of the Land League commence at two o'clock to-day, whea the Counsel for the Crown will apply for adjournment until January.

A great indignation meeting will be held at; Raithdown on Sunday.

An appeal by the Land League to the people of Ireland will be published this afternoon.

The latest returns make it certain that California has been carried by the Repub- licans by over 2,000, This being the case, Garfield will have 219 electoral votes and Hancock 150. The next House will be Republican. Coanting Smith, who defeat- ed Chittenden, as Republican, without the aid of any Greenbackers elected by the aid of the Republicans, their strength will not be less.than 151 votes, while that of the Democrats, Greenbackers and Read- justers wili be 142. The political complex- ion of the Senate will depend upon the Legislatures of California and Tennessee. In the latter the Democrats claim a small majority, but their count includes several Independents. Ex-Senator Dorsey says that if Fair of Nevada is elected to the Senate he will act with the Republicans.

Rumors were in circulation last evening that the National Democratic Committee was engaged in preparing a protest against counting the vote of New York. The fact appears to be that,Barnum’s committee is making charges of illegality in the election of New York, based upon the fact that Commissioner Davenport prevented voting on fradulent naturalization papers issued by ‘Tweed and the courts in 1867 and 1868, and of fraudulent voting.
