R. train which came in at a high rate of speed. She was standing at the edge of the platform, but the force with which the train came in caused her dress to be caught bya ear, andshe was dragged under it. Fortu- nately the train had come toa stop before she was reached by the wheels, and her only in- jury wasa slight wound on the head caused by her fall.— Moncton Times. oenthaaigptinent ll Pueitstic.—An inter:ational glove con- test of fifteen rounds, Marquis of Queensbury rules, is to come off within two weeks in Bos- ton between Jem Kendrick, middle weight champion of Great britain, and Jack C. Me- Gee, of East Boston. Both men are restricted to 148 pounds each. Advices from Boston are to the effect that McUee is getting in fine condition, and that the contest will be a hot one. McGee, it will be remembered, was one of the three sparrers who gave the exhibitions in Scott's Hall a few weeks ago. — -> A Scaypat.—Th?> church-going people of Souris West were horrified, last Sunday morn- ing, to find one of their most zealous members in the act of cutting and raking the timothy which grows inthe beautiful little cemetery at that place. Weare of the opinion that a more suitable time than the Sabbath morn should be chosen for such labors; and also trust that, in future, this pseudo-Christian will desist from scandalizing the living and desecrating the dead, to gratify the corporeal inclinations of a consumptive horse, —Com.
CensvRrasBLe Conpuct.—Advices from Cape Tormentiue state that certain parties have taken lately to defacing and destroying pro- perty at that place. Not content with de- facing buildings by tarring them, expensive shop windows are broken between twelve and one o'clook at night. Particular spite seems to be directed against Mr. J. B. Belyea, one of the most respected residents of the place, who, though not a native of the-village, be- longs to the province, and is a law-abiding British subject. There is a strong suspicion asto who the guilty parties are, and they will probably figure Lofore the Court in a few days.

Owing to an aecident to the steamer City of St. John, Judge Smith has not yet ar- rived at Shelburne, and the trial of the petition against Gen. Laurie has been post poned till to-morrow.
The Colchester Liberals to-day nominated a Morrison to oppose Ex-Governor Archibald. Mr. Morrison is a son of the late Hon. Thos. Morrison and a partner of the city Recorder, Mr. MacCoy.
While excavating beneath a building to- day, the shoring gave way, the building collapsed aud John Malone, a septuagen- arian and mason, was crushed to death.
The Prohibitionists of Colchester have a meeting on the 26th to consider the ad- visability of placing a candidate in the

chester election will issue at once. Nomin- taion, August 8th, and election, 15th. Sheriff Crowe is returning officer.
Col, Herchmer, who arrived to-day, states that a considerable number of half-breeds from Batouche and other districts are mov- ing into the Peace River District. In re- ference to general matters he says that prosperity reins in the Northwest. The Indians are quiet and the crop outlook is magnificent.
Big Demonstratior.
Vera Cruz, July 18. The demonstration in the city of Mexico to-day, in honor of President Juarez, was the grandest ever seen there. Representa- tives of all the different organizations of Mexico participated. The procession marched through the principal streets to the tomb of Juarez. Orations were deli- vered, and representatives of different news- papers deposited wreaths on the tomb. The music was by twelve bands. President Diaz and members of the Cabinet visited
the cemetery.
A Fracas.

The Salvation Army, while at St. Foye last evening, were stoned by a French mob, and several severely injured. Several re- volvers were drawn by Salvationists, and five shots were fired in quick succession amongst the crowd, which caused a general stampede. Most fortunately the shots did not strike anyone.
