Mystrriovs anp Fatan Occurrence.—Qn Monday morning ast, as a smail vessel, laden with cattle and agricultural produce, bound for St. John’s, N. F., was proceeding out of the harbour, two of the crew landed at the Block-house, and informed Mrs. Smith, the person in charge, that a man named John Murray, a tailor,m Charlottetown, who had taken assage in the vessel the evening previous, and had gone to x1 in good health, was missing from the vessel, and, it was | believed, had fallen overboard. Mrs. Smith told the in- formant that he had better get the vessel taken back into port, and report the occurrence ; but this was not done—the vesse! steadily proceeding on her voyage. Assoon as Murray’s relatives in Charlottetown became aware of his fate, diligent search was made for his body, which was not found, however, until Tuesday morning, and when brought to light, exhibited An inquest, sum- |

moned by Mr. Coroner Hodgson, has been held over the body, | —

but its proceedings have been adjourned for a month, when it | have returned to Charlottetown—at present there being no |

thing like a satisfactory verdict. Dr. Hobkirk, who made a/| post mortem examination of the body, stated it as his decided | opinion, that ,the contusion over the left eye was inflicted | before death, but did not cause death—the unfortunate man | having perished by drowning. The case is a very mysterious | one, and is rendered particularly so by the fact of the vessel | not returning to report it, when she was not out of the har-) hour when it oceurred. We have no doubt the necessary | steps will be taken to make full investigation into all the frets | connected with it. The poor man, thus summarily cut off, has | left a wife and three small children in Charlottetown.

On the 7th inst., at Seal River, near Orwell, a sad tragedy was enacted. It appears, from the very unsatisfactory infor- mation we haye been enabled to clicit, that a man named James Hogan had become insane, and, after setting fire to his own house, repaired to that of Mr. Wm. Fraser, sen., a short
