Serious AcctpEnT.—A despatch from Fred- ericton says that Miss White, a young lady belonging to Marysville, met with quite a serious accident in the Marygville rink on Wednesday night. A young mau belonging to Marysville, while skating round the rink with all the speed there was in him, fan into Mies White, throwing her forcibly upon the ice. A deep and ugly cut was inflicted under one of her eyes.

Justmtezs Cetzsration.—The Summer- side Agriculturist says: A grand torchlight proceesion is to be a prominent feature in the celebration of Father Doyle’s Jubilee on the 24th January. Preparations are being made for an artistic illumination of St. Paul’s Church and St. Mary’s Convent, and we learn that a large number of stores and private residences will also be illumin- ated in honor of the event.

rts that the jury in the case of Romaine ‘asey, the man kil ed on the I. C. R., have returned a verdict to the effect that Case met his death by an accident at the Cooks Brook crossing of the J. C. R., the engine of No. l express having struck the sled upon which he was sitting. and that no blame is attached to the railway men in charge. The jury also made reference to the care and fore- thought of the conductor in a the body and the necesssry witnesses to Moncton, and declared that the driver had exercieed extra diligance.

Cottarse or 4 Bureptnc.—A York, Pa., despatch says that while a Christmas enter- tainment was being he'd in a hall at East Prospect on the evening of the 26th the build- ing collapsed. Three hundred people were hurled with broken timbers from the second to the first floor. The stoves set fire to the ruins. No fatalities, but many were more or lees hurt. A ecene of the wildest excitement followed the collapse of the building. Fortun- ately a number who were near the exit escap- ed unhurt and these with others that quickly gathered assisted in the rescue.

woman had been leading a dissolute life and
cursed her husband when he accused her of ,
infidelity to her marriage vows, As soon as the murder had been committed Benson gave himself up and pleaded justification. The murderer also fired at a man named Frank Singer who was in the house at the time and is said to have had improper re- lations with Benson's wife. He (Singer) received a bullet in the arm and thigh, but will get better.

Darby, Methodist minister at Boone Bay, Nfid., for the protection of British subjects on the French shore from French oppression. He says the people are. being goaded to desperation, and warns the | Government that there is danger of blood-- shed and murder unless British rights are maintained. This appeal, together with, the recent debate
in the French Senate; has directed attention here to a possible | acute stage of dispute. The French Gov-
