A Nova Scoria Fine.—The dweliing house of George Fields, of Brookfield, N. S., was barned with part of ihe household furniture last week. There was no insur- ance. The furniture on the lower floor was saved, but the chamber furniture, 150 Its. of wool and 100 bushels of potatoes in the cellar were destroyed. Mr. Fields and all his tamily were in the potato field gathering the remainder of the crop when the fire was discovered. Mrs. Fields was left with the clothing she wore at the time, everything else being burned.

PISQUID NOTES.

‘The good people of this vincinity are very indignant that our government should leave Pisquid Bridge in such a dilapidated condition as it has been leftin for some time past. A year has now passed since a high tide undermined onesideof it leaving that side two feet lower than the other, the heavy timbere supporting the arch varely touching the sunken frame work and the whoie structure dangerous to life and limb.

No one wished the powers controlling such matters to rebuild it at that season of the year; no one imagined that it would be left as long without the necessary re- pairs; yet there it stands a monument of carelessness or incapacity of our rulers, a menace to the travelling public and an evesore to the staunch supporters of the party in power.

A few days ago some persons were tak - ing @ ihrashing-mill across it as it was a much shorter way than to go around the river further south. When the wheels descended into the huge rut excavated by the tide, the tail end of the mill caught on the bank behind thus throwing the weight of the torward part down on the horse’s back with such force as to crush him prone upon the arch. It would be needless to quote here al! the nice things said by the driver about the late Premierand the supervisor, suffice it to say that they would not conduce to the edification of your readears or the sanctifi- cation of the parties interested. Mr. Peters passed over this bridge several times during the summer; engineers from Char- lottetown came to view its shattered condition, while the Supervisor paid it innumerable visits. Indeed if he demande pay for each of those innocent diversions it will prove a veritable Klondyke for him aad explain why he did not repair it long ago. Surely the present government will do something in this matter if only to have pity on their loyal supporters hereabout.

The aboideau which was built across the mouth of the Pisquid River last sum-: mer by the most determined eiforts on the part of the marsh owners, was not a suc- cess. When the work was about completed nearly one hundred feet of it was carr ed away by a storm and tide, and the people are now debating whether it is better to repair the damege or not. Some maintain that though the work should be again completed there is no certanty that it would be substantial,
