À VISIT TO CHERRY ISLAND

Last Saturday afternoon we had the pleasure of visiting Cherry Island, in Cascumpec Bay, the property of Mr Robert Oulton. Mr. Chas. Dalton of this town having kindly invit- ed us to visit the fox farm which is situated on Mr Oul- ton’s property, we accepted with pleasure so amiable an in- vitation and 2 p. m. found us the hosts of Mr and Mrs Ouil- ton. After having satisfied the inner man and formed acquaint- ance with our host’s family, a- mong whom were Mrs Capt. Spalding of Malden, Mass. aud her two interesting children, we pioceeded, accompanied by Mr Oulton, to the fox rancho, which is stationed about the center of the island. We may here mention that the island contains about 200 acres, 80 Jof which are under high state of cultivation. The rest of the ‘s- land is covered with thick woods, and it is in the wooded part of the island that Messrs Dalton and Ouiton {for Mr Chas Dalton is a shareholder of the fox farm) have erected a 13 feet high wire fence of fine poultry aetting of about two acres square in which they have now a dozen beautiful black foxes. Arrived at the pen we quietily sat near and watched master Raynard gamboïing as gayly and freely as ïfhe were in a hundred miles square forest. This wire enclosure has
