While it is common knowled e that sown cereals almost invariaby llroduce the greater yields of grain. some have thought that heavier yields of straw were obtained by delaying the seeding until the ground warmed up,

Taking the various factors into consideration, time will be saved and total yields increased by seed- inw wheat first (unless joint-worm is present in the district) then bar- ley, then oats and finally peas.

Under Maritime conditions it, necessary to sow gens either very early or very late escape the pea moth. In preparing a seed bed for cereals. spring rork should start lust as soon as the land is ready. This can usually be determined, in sandy loam soils by taking a hand- ful of earth at several points in the field. and if after squeezing it, the soil is friable when the hand is opened aizain, start work.

Once the land is fit every day's delay means a. substantial loss in yield. Do not wait for the ground to warm up as many did last year and found it damper and colder a month later than it was early in May. Moderate soil temperatures are most satisfactory for the ger- mination of the cereal cops and

A very enthusiastic meeting of Jubilee W. I. took place at the home of Mrs. W. P. Cameron, Al- bany on May 4th, with l5 mem- bers and 3 visitors present. The minutes of the last regular meeting and special meeting held on April 25th were approved as read. Miss Mary Garland was ap- pointed to represent the Institute in this matter. The committees gave their reports and as a result it was decided to purchase a. bat and ball for each school room. It was also planned to assist in the planting of a tree on the school grounds on Arbor Day. It was with a great deal of pleasure and par- donable pride that the members learned that Mrs. A. C. Green had been aired to reipeat her demon- stration on "Articles Made from Flour Bags" at the annual conven- tion. Mrs. Jas. Johnston and Mrs. Geo. Burns were appointed dele- gatw to the Convention. The social part of the evening proved very en- teﬂaining when Mira. MacKay and Mrs. Pines/u tied for first place in an original "Name Contest" put on by Mrs. W. P. Cameron. and Mrs. Pineau and her nimble-fingered as- sistants came out victorious in the Knot Untying Contest staged by Mrs. E. V. MacLeod. A chain letter was written to a resident of the district sick in the hospital. A pleasant chat over the tea-cups followed by a vote of thanks to the hostess and the National Anthem broilght the meeting to a close.
