Things Are Quiet

THINGS are mighty qutet on the Prince Edward Island i.

We haven‘t heard a sound about anyone getting ready ft: the 1963 season which should not he too far away. Probably when things get rolling. everbody will start organizing at once and activity will be fast and furious.

However. we do think it’s high time that some ground work was laid for the summer ahead. For the success of now league. proper planning must be done. The success'enioyed by loops is not something accidental. it only comes about after several top notch promoters get together and draw definite plans.

Perhaps while we are typing this copy out. there are var- lous promoters busy preparing their strategy for the 1963 sum- mer. Chances are that the next few days will bring announce- ments of organizational meetings in Queens. Kings and Prince

Undoubtedly the backward spring has kept baseball talk down but with the hope of pleasant May days we can look for action on many baseball fronts.

At any rate. let's get moving

A Close Race

THAT voting PM between Toronto's Douglas and Detroit‘s Barkley was surely a close one.

If you could get anything closer than 99.4 and 99.! we’d like to hear about it. Both are fine young players and either one wou be an excellent choice. It was Douglas’s first half lead that won him the Calder trophy and the top money that goes with it. Barkley had a terrific last half and narrowly mis- led out on the first ruin: of the ladder.

There's a g chance that the Detroit Club will make nip to Mr. Barkley the difference in prize money between him and Douglas. Kent got $500 for leading at, the half way mark and another $1000 for c ppinrg the trophy. Doug received $500 for heading the list in the last half of the campaign.

With the whole affair so close. we hope that Barkley gets some extra consideration from his club

Mohovlich Is Coming

THE vistt of Frank Mahovlich. star of the Toronto Maple Leafs and a member of this season's all-star squad. is drawing near.

The Big M comes to Charlottetown next Tuesday evening for a smen's dinner sponsored by SDU Athletic Boostera' Club. This $20-a-plate function will be held at The Charlottetown Hotel and is expected to attract at least 200 persons.

This energetic group of sportsmen that has banded to- gether under the banner of the SDU ‘Athletic‘ Booster’s Club is surely to be congratulated on securing such a sports personality as Frank ovlich for this function. It was only last week that the Toronto star was chosen for the all-star team and he comes here fresh from his second nomination to all-star fame.

Undoubtedly students at Birchwood and Queen Charlotte High Schools will get a chance to hear Big Frank on Wednesday beﬂore he departs for Halifax. We understand that this is being taken care of by the committee in charge
