We trust the Government of Canada are not overlooking the importance of establishing a line of steamers between St. Joho and Liverpeol. All parts of New Brunswick call for such a line,and all parts ef Neva Scotia adjacent to the Bay of Fundy joia in urging the matter upon the Government. We have no doult that the Government will aid the undertaking when the members of the Misistry have given the subject full consideration.—St. John Sun.

Of the war vessels to come to Canada the Mai/ says:—‘ We understand that the name of the vessel, which is a covette ef 1500 tons, is the Charybodis. She has just returned from India, and has been placed at the disposal of the Government, all standing, with coms plete eutfit. Itis understood that the Government have determined ie accept the gift. Captain Scott, R. N.. of Hali- fax will proceed at once to England io bring out the vessel. She is to be stationed at St. John, N. b.

On Tuesday afterneen a yeung man named Jehn Macfarlane, living at Marble Cove, St. Jolin, was shot and killed by Policeman Wm. Malone, of the town ef Potland. The affair hap pened on the read leading tg Long and Burnhill’s Mill. Macfarlane had in his possession a watch whicha young fel- lew named Alchers had stolen from his (Aichorn’s sister). Malone went to arrest him, without a warrant, snd Mac-~ farlane ran away. Malene drew a re~ velver and fired. The bullet entered Macfarlane’s back and caused instant death.
