I will try mercy in this man’s case, and I charge you, your grace, to let me know the re- sult. A good soldier, you said. Oh! I thank you for that! And you may tell him that your good word saved him.’ Then she took the paper, and wrote, with a bold firm hand, acro-s the dark page the bright, saving word—‘ pardoned!’ The | Duke was fond of telling the story ; and} he was willing also to confess that the giviog of that paper to the pardoned soldier gave him far more joy than he could have experienced from the taking of a city.—London Journal!

Hints For Young Ladies.

world has just been formed in Coiorado,}?

by the amalgamation of the Hermosilla and Huerjoua ranches, near Pueblo. The farms together contain nearly 100,000 acres—more than 156 square miles—and have some 10,000 or 15,000 head of cattle on them, mostly Shorthorn grades raised from Texas cattle and pure-bred wales. The cattle live out in the open all winter apd get their own living, the only expense being the pay aud keep of the herders. A steer cao be turned out fut at four years old ata totul cost of $4.
