The Opinion of a Correspondent.

AtiHENs, May 6.—There is great re-

joicing here over the news that the Turks

were rejulsed at Piarsalos.

Crown Prince Constantine and Prince Nicholas fought courageously in the front ranks. The government has sent them congratulations, aod has also congratu- lated the troops upon their bravery and steadiness.

The public are overjoyed and are al- ready forgetting the early blunders of the campaign. A _ decisive battle will, it is expected, be fought at Pharsalos today (Thursday).

New Yorx, May 6.—The London cor- respondent of the Sun cables: England, as Mr. Curzon announced in the House of Commons yesterday, is again pressing the question of intervention,—this time with euccess. The impressiou grows in all quarters that the submission of Greece to ‘Turkey and the Powers wil! soon be forth- coming.

It is not unlikely that the end of the hostilities will take the form of a brief armistice. This gained, nobody believes that fighting will ever be resumed.

Senator Ferguson Seeks and Gains Some Information.

No Arrangements Made for Co-opera- tien in Respect to Hillsborough Bridge.

Orrawa, May 6.—Yesterday was private members’ day.

The afternoon was occupiel with first readings and motions for papers.

On one motion a discussion arose on the dismissals of postmasters aud other coun- try officials.

The evening session was devoted to the discussion, upon the second reading of Mr. Caseys! bill to compel railways to carry bicycles free, as personal baggage.

In the Senate, Hon. Mr. Ferguson moved for correspondence on financial matters between the Federal Government and the Ministry of Prince Edward Island. Also for papers relating tothe employment of the steamer Petrel as a ferryboat between Prince Edward Island the mainland.

He said that the Pedrel was entirely un fitted for the work and only made two or three trips across the straits.

Senator Scott informed Senator Fergu- son that no arrangements had yet been made to co-operate with the provincial Government in the construction of the Hillsborough River Bridge, but that $7,- 500 had been placed in the estimates to cover the cost of a survey.

Paris, May 6.—It is officially announced that the total number of the dead in the Bazaar fire is 111. The bodies of Duchess D’Alencot and six others have been iden— tified. The Duchess D’Alencon was a sister of the Empress of Austria, and wife of Prince Ferdinand of Orleans.

Senate Refuses to Ratify It.

Wasuincron, May 6.—'1he Senate, by a vote of 44 to 26, has refused to ratify the arbitration treaty between the United States and Great Britain.

The interment took place at South Rustico on Suoday last in the Church of England cemetery. Rev. T. B. Reagh officiated. The funeral was attended by a large number of people.

At Albsrquerque, New Mexico, on May 4th, of consumption, DeWolfe Anderson, aged 47 years. The deceased was a native ot this city and a second son of Capt. Jobo Anderson.
