Imperial Federation.

As already announced a public meeting in the interests of Imperial Federation is to be held im this city in the near future. The principal speaker on the occaision will be Rev. Dr. Wilson, who perhaps more than any other man in this Province, has studied the question, and whose addresses thereon have been highly spoken of by the press generally, Heis President of the St. John branch of the lmperial] Federation League and is under engagements to dis- cuss the question in several centres during What Dr. Wilson’s views are may be gathered from the following copied from the Methodist, of which he is the editor, but which in a lecture is dealt with more in detail :

The Potato Crop

(Fredericton Reporter. }

The only crop in the prevince that has gone below the average this year seems to be the potato. From all over the province the reports come in that the rot has affected the crop to a far greater extent than for some years. The peculiarity of the disease is that it first effected the tops, and in a few days whole acres were black and wilted. The rains seem to wash the poison from the stalk down into the earth, where it effected the potato, causing not a dry rot as in some years, but a watery decaying rot, completely destroying the whole potato, after it became once affected. The ravages of the disease is not confined to New Brunswick, for all over Maine the reports are forthcoming of the same potato rob,
