The mag- nificent roadsters and carriage horses, full blood stailions and thoroughbred mares that occupied the stables were in themselves objects of attraction that de- lighted hundreds of visitors. It is ap- parent that the improvement in horses that is noticeable every year is traceable to the great care taken by cur principal breeders throughout the country, and to the various ste<s farms in P. E. Island, New Bruuswick and Nova Scotia, where intelligence and practical knowledge are in active combination. The Prince Ed- ward Island exhibit of horses, cattle and sheep seems to deserve especial mev- tion. Messrs. Gardiner and Longworth, men who know their business, and who take delight in exhibiting the really splendid animals from that smallest Province of the Dominion. The Government Stock Farin of that Province sends a splendid collection of horses, cattle and sheep, which have been alluded to by telegraph. Their celebrated Clydesdale stallion is a marvel of beauty; only three years old and weighs 1,800 lbs.; bred out of pure stock on this farm. They also have a Short Durham cow that is a perfect monster, and a graceful and beaut'ful creature, weighing 1.950 lbs. The re- maining collection of Durhams from this farm are all up to the standard and com- prise five cows and heifers aud a famous Short Horn Durham bull. All of the Government Farm exhibit are prob-

The company formed have purchased a second steamer and ordered the construc- tion of five more.
The prospects for building a ship canal in Spain from the Bay of Biscay to the Mediterranean through the Valley of the Garrone and the Andee are somewhat favorable. The cattle and sheep are of the most improved breeds, aud have shared largely in prizes. H. Longworth, a promineut stock raiser iv the vicinity of Charlottetown, seems to compete closely with the Government Farm in cattle and sheep. He also car- ries off prizes in the different classes and sections in which he is a competitor. Mr. Boswell, also a farmer from the Island, has a very handsome lot of sheep on exhibition; also black oats, which are said to be the best at the Exhibition. In fact the whole exhibit from this small but fertile province is highly creditable to its people and Gov- ernment. ‘The method adopted by the Government of that Province in causing a representation of its products at the Dominion Exhibition deserves commend- atien. They appointed a Board of Com- missioners termed the Advisory Board of P. E. Island. The Secretary of this Board is Mr. A. McNeill, who has for many years been Secretary of Proviv- cial Exhibitions in his native Province. This Board appointed Judges to select the different animals and articles entered for the Dominion Exhibition, thereby securing a choice exhibit in every de- partment. Much of the success of the Island at the Exhibition is due to this Advisory Board.

At St. John last year the Prince Ed- ward Ielaud exhibit attracted a great deal of attention aud admiration. This year the Island is again to the front. The live stock exhibit consists of thirteen stallions, seventeen gelding and mares, twenty-five head of cattle, forty sheep, and some poultry. The sheep made a very fine show, end the horses were by far the best on ‘he grounds. The Island as noted for its fine horses. The endeavors to form a company in London for the purchase and development of two millions of acres in the North-West, half from the Government and half from the Syndicate, are likely to prove a success. The Times’ special letters concerning the Marquis of Lorne’s progress are attracting great attention. Lord Lornes’s statement that the Syndicate. whose fortunes de- pauded en the success of the gigantic onter- prise just undertaken, had assured him that whatever disquietude cr aaxiety they once entertained was completely gone from their minds in consequence of the way in which settlers are flocking in, and that the peopling of the North West is an absolute certainty, greatly influences discontented farmers here. Many are now desirous of emigrating.
