AN Otp Coin,—There may be seen at this office a coin the age of which is not positively known, but is supposed to be a Roman coin of the second century. it was taken in at the store of Mr. G. W. Anotuer OLp Coin.—The St. John Globe's old coin, a notice of which we published yesterday, is ‘knocked to spots’ by one in possession of Mr. J. Coha of this city, who has shown it tous, It is about 2500 years old, having been coined during the reign of Antiochus 6th of Greece, whose impression it bears. Mr. Cohn has been offered $250 for it in New York, which be refused. He is now in treaty with the British Museum for its purchase.— Hz, paper.

Curt ror Hypxopuonia.—At Adina, in Friule, a poor man suffering under the ago- nising tortures of hydrophobia was cured by draughts of vinegar given him by mis- take, instead of another potion. Another physician at Padu got intelligence of this event, and tried the same remedy upon a patient at the hospital, administering a pound of vinegar in the morning, another at noon, and athird at sunset, and the man was speedily and perfectly cured.

Destruction OF THE BurraALo.—The aver- age annual destruction of the buffaloes dur. ing the last thirty or forty years is estimat- ed by a writer in the Penn Monthly at be- tween three and four miliions, During the season of 1872-73 no less than two thou- sand hunters, it is said, were engaged in hunting the buffalo along the line of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad alone. By these men at leas 250,000 buifaloes were slain, simply for their hides, the carcasses being left untouched on the plains, At this rate, the bison will have utterly*disap- peared before many years unless Govern- ment interferes to prevent this wasteful slaughter.

A Corresronpent of the King’s County Advertiser reflects very pertinently on the manner in which Dr. Robertson was euchred out of aseat in the Government. If the author of the letter referred to is not the Dr., himself, he must be some man well informed as to the Dr.’s sentiments. His allusion to the “unsoundness”’ of Hon. W.D. Stewart, is very significant. The Dr. evidently expected a higher premium, would have been set on his undoubted honesty on the School Question. The cor. respondent of the Advertiser winds up his letter by writing :—“ For my part, I am per- fectly willing to afford them a fair and an honorable trial. There are some sterling men amongst them.” The correspondent is right. Let the Government have a fair trial. There are sterling men among them. The gentleman who was preferred to Dr. Robertson is one.

Noreason has been assigned, and the pub'ic cannot very well understand the manwuver. In fact the townspeople are considerably ashamed of it, Mr. Byrne's trustworthiness or ef- ficiency has never been questioned, and in his official capacity I understand that he is second to none on the line. Well, why is this? I suppose the incumbent of the Georgetown station was rather averse to country life; and some of the colour-serge» ants brought the force of circumstances to bear so forcibly on the Superintendent that the transfer was the only remedy which he thought would heal.” TriaL or Potato Diecers.—To solve the problem of successfully digging potatoes by machinery has long been the ambition of many of our mechanics.
