AN alarm was rung for a fire in Palmer's lane on Saturday evening last, at eight o'clock. The firemen were shortly on the spot, but it was found im small barn. Successful efforts were made to keep the fire from spreading to houses in the vicinity. We learn that four fires have been started in this vicinity lately, but that they have been put out before getting under way. A sharp look-out will hereafter be kept for the incendiary.

The Tea and Trot at Bideford on the 12th promises to be a first-class affair if the weather is favorable. Some first class horses are entered from Charlottetown aod Summerside, to compete with the flyers of the West. The four ycar old race will be the most interesting as there are already five entries from Summer- side alone, including Enman’s Flora, Charles McDonald’s gelding Lookout, and Mr. Connor's mare. R. C. McLeod's gelding is entered for the free for all. John McDon- ald has entered the Keefe mare in the run- ning race.

ABDALLAH QUEEN TAKES SECOND PLACE IN THE 2.40 CLASS.

The fourth heat of the 2.40 class was called at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Owing to an apparent design on the part of Abdailah Queen’s driver to delay the heat, it was 3 o'clock before a start was effected. The horses were finally got away, the heat being taken in 2.46 by Honest Tom, Queen second and Long John third.

After a heat of the county race, Brown took Steel’s place as driver of Queen, The word was given from the judges’ stand, but by a misunderstanding the bell was rung and Slipp, the driver of Honest Tom, stopped, while Queen and Long John kept on, Queen going to the front and winning in excellent style, no time being given. Long John was awarded second place and Honest Tom third. ;

In the néxt 2.40 heat Queen again went to the front and won in two forty-two and a half minutes, Honest Tom second. Each horse now had two heats, so the next one was very interesting. Queen promised well but broke and lost, while John secured and kept first place, winning the heat and

Tom, having no third in any heat, took second money.

In the free-for-all six horses came to the line, positions being as follows : Bowen’s Helena, pole; Slipp’s Long John, Langley’s Honest Tom, Jenkins’ Abdallah Queen, Given’s Stewart ge and McLeod’s Gipsey Queen, in the order named. The heat was a very pretty one, although the horses scored so many times that they had to be started from the distance line by Mr. Bustin, at the judges’ request. Maloney went to the front and promised to distance the field, but Helena collared him within the first half mile, and he was also passed by Honest Tom. Helena won in 2.454. Honest Tom second, Malorey third,
