-xge crowd of UPEI fans, who had made the trip to Halifax and who were seat* ed behind the Panther ben- ch, rose to their feet and gave a long and loud stan- ding ovation to their "Ci- nderella" team which was just finishing the best season that any Panther team had ever attained.It was a fitting tribute and, we hope, demonstrated to the boys that, win, lose, or draw, all Islanders are justly proud of them!!

As for the game...well it just was not our day..... the day belonged to SMU quarterback Bill Robinson, he REALLY beat us....this time we managed to stop his passing pretty well... only to have him run all three of their touchdowns in!!!!How can you beat a guy like that??

The bus trip with Vera in charge, was a lot of fun & everyone had as good a ti- me as could be expected when we lost. We'd like to pay a tribute to Vera who has certainly added a lot to our travelling enjoyme- nt. Some have asked if the Student Union will be run- ning trips to hockey games and the answer will depend

, In the opening game of the invitational tourname- nt at Antigonish, our boys got away to a sorry start as they were unable to co- pe with the taller and mo- re experiencedX-Men. What- ever chance we might have had to make the contest a close one was lost in the early stages of the game when centerman Jamie Ball- em was forced to leave be- cause of a broken probos- cis (look that one up). We anticipate rapid improve ment in this team as it is mainly composed of Island boys, many of whom are ge- tting their first taste of intercollegiate competiti- on.

Hockey coach, Vincie Mul- ligan was quite unwilling

to accept this tie as he felt that, on the play of the game, we deserved a win. We outshot the Mount- ies 37-27....which statis- tic is of the same import- ance as the count of left handed spectators in the ¥ink, 2... they: still ‘count goals only. Our first reaction was to wonder if this character hidden behind a microphone would have had the courage to say’the same things to Canvin's face, but then we decided that Grant would be so amazed that he'd do nothing......Grant Canvin is a GENTLEMAN...which de- scription, we are sure, cannot be applied to his detractorl rr: lr!
